One Miami Dolphins player is facing the most important week of his playing career
The Miami Dolphins’ search for clarity in the quarterback room could finally become a reality this week.
The Miami Dolphins have plenty of players still angling for a 53-man roster spot. It’s a full-on battle royal at several positions on the roster. The Dolphins are young and hungry while operating on a budget.
One of the most murky positions to sort out right now is the backup quarterback spot. Neither Quinn Ewers or Cam Miller, the two contenders behind Malik Willis, has been able to put together a strong statement — although Ewers has generally held court as the QB2. But for Cam Miller, everything could change this week.
Miami Dolphins backup quarterback Cam Miller is facing the most important week of his playing career

Miller will be the Dolphins’ de-facto backup quarterback as Ewers rests an ailing groin injury — with David Furones of the Sun Sentinel also reporting that Ewers has a second, undisclosed injury he’s been working through. With Ewers on the shelf this week, that means that Miller will get a chance to step up to work with the presumed second-team offense all week long. What will he do with the opportunity?
This is why this week is so big for Cam Miller. If Miller can elevate and play better while working with the players that Ewers has had to throw to, it will open the door for some questions about each quarterback. Miller looking better and capitalizing on his elevated opportunities with Ewers on the sideline could create a wedge in the competition. Neither Ewers or Miller has looked good this summer. Miller looking good this week is a possible depth chart tilting development by the time the end of the month rolls around.
Miller came to Miami late in the 2025 season after being a 6th-round draft choice by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2025 NFL Draft. One round later, the Dolphins drafted Ewers to be Tua Tagovailoa’s backup under Mike McDaniel. Miller’s not of prototypical size. He doesn’t have a cannon arm. And, as we saw in the preseason opener against Washington, he’s not super well-equipped to handle pressure. That’s what makes Miller’s time at QB2 with Ewers out of the picture so essential.
It cuts both ways, though. Should Miller not show that with better players around him, he’s a more stable option? This quarterback room may be settled without much of a fuss at all. So all eyes on QB2 in Miami this week. Let’s see what happens.
