Consider this a love letter to Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas’ NFL debut.
The Miami Dolphins had rookies take nearly three out of every ten snaps on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. That was, far and away, the highest mark in the league.
But one rookie in particular moved the needle in nearly every possible way. The Caleb Douglas train is leaving the station, folks. And whether you believed in the pick when it was made or not…Douglas’ stat sheet was really just the tip of the iceberg with his play.

Among rookie receivers in 2026, Douglas landed a clean sweep in target share, receptions, yards, and yards after the catch. As highlighted by Underdog, Douglas had the most receiving yards in an NFL debut since LA Rams star Puka Nacua went off for 119 yards. And Douglas’ 94 yards tied the Miami Dolphins’ franchise record for the most receiving yards in a debut with the team.
But the play here went far beyond how many times he was thrown the football. Douglas won without the football too. He was slippery against press coverage and was a persistent winner on the outside. A cleaner pocket or slightly different timing could have yielded several other receptions in the passing game. But then you watch him play in the run game.
Douglas was all gas, no brakes all game. Working from the back side to pick up a safety in case a run pops. Sealing linebackers on the edge to help cut-off flow from the backside. Stalk blocking on the perimeter and getting hands on cornerbacks. You name it, Douglas did it.
So in all, you’ve got a rookie who embodied the kind of play the Dolphins want without the football. And the same player who executed all that dirty work also happened to post more receiving yards in his first game than any NFL rookie since Puka Nacua?
It (probably) won’t always be this smooth for Douglas as rookie. But if you’re still holding out skepticism of this pick from April, you’re running out of reasons.
