The Miami Dolphins biggest loss this weekend may not have been their game against the New York Giants

The Miami Dolphins succumbed to the New York Giants by a final score of 26-3 in Week 2 of the 2026 preseason. It was a generally uneventful football game for the Dolphins, who sat the vast majority of their starters. Consider it further affirmation of their limited depth for the season ahead.

But the actual game, an exhibition contest, may not be the biggest loss of the weekend for the Miami Dolphins. One of Miami’s bright young rookies went down with what appeared to be a lower leg injury — and his status is one worth holding our breath over.

Fourth-round rookie Trey Moore leapt into the air to flash in front of Giants QB Jameis Winston to help force an incompletion. But as the play settled, Moore remained lying in a heap on the grass at Hard Rock Stadium. A trainer soon knelt next to him, feeling his lower leg and inspecting for injury. Moore was helped off the field and ushered to the locker room, where he wasn’t heard from again.

Moore has been getting major run with the first team defense despite his status as a fourth-round draft pick. He was listed on the Dolphins’ unofficial depth chart as the first-string SAM linebacker.

There’s a need for concern here. Moore is a bit of a hybrid talent, but he fits a role that not many other Miami Dolphins on this year’s roster are able to fill. As a tweener edge/stack linebacker player, Moore felt like a tailored fit for head coach Jeff Hafley. Keep an eye out for any updates on Moore’s status. If he misses significant time, Moore’s injury will be a much bigger loss than an exhibition showcase. Hopefully that’s not the case.
