The Miami Dolphins are tabbing one reinforcement from their 2026 practice squad in time for their Week 1 contest versus the Raiders.

When Miami takes the field this afternoon, it will mark a new chapter in the franchise under head coach Jeff Hafley. And, as these first few weeks play out, everything will be a “first”. A first game, a first win (hopefully), a first touchdown. But even the little things are work tracking — including the first practice squad elevation. We had that come through on Saturday. And there’s a possible edge for the player chosen in this matchup against this team.
The Miami Dolphins elevate EDGE Clelin Ferrell ahead of Week 1 versus Las Vegas
The decision to add Ferrell to the game day roster for Miami gives the Dolphins another veteran player to the edge room — and someone who has familiarity competing against Raiders LT Kolton Miller. Miller and Ferrell were both on the Raiders’ rosters from 2019 through 2022. It’s safe to say they know each other well.
How much Ferrell can leverage that into any added advantage in his playing time? That’s to be determined. The Dolphins are, as a whole, going to be fascinating to watch from a fronts perspective. How heavy do they load up the line of scrimmage on defense? Are they content to simply with three heavy defenders and Chop Robinson?
When you take a head count of Miami’s edge defenders, it’s probably safe to assume that Chop Robinson and Joshua Uche will command the outside reps in obvious passing situations. So is Ferrell in line for an early-down rotation? These are the kinds of answers we’ll see this afternoon — especially with a new head coach running the operation. Miami only gets three activations for every player on the practice squad, so this commitment would presumably be made with something specific in mind.
