Three Miami Dolphins who should play more in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers
The Miami Dolphins will clash with the 49ers in California on Sunday. Who are the players who should see more action than Week 1?
The Miami Dolphins are going to try to salvage a long trip out west on Sunday with a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. The Dolphins are considered major underdogs. But there’s always a path to victory.
For Miami in this game? There’s the subject of who is touching the ball on offense. Star running back De’Von Achane must touch the ball more than he did in Week 1. But there’s a larger conversation about who should be seeing more of the field than last week. Here are three Miami Dolphins players who should get more snaps this week than they did in Las Vegas.
Three Miami Dolphins who should play more in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers
TE Will Kacmarek
Kacmarek, the Dolphins third-round rookie tight end, posted just over a dozen snaps against the Las Vegas Raiders. Miami played just one snap of 12 personnel on offense (one back, two tight ends) in the loss. I don’t think either of those numbers should be the standard. Perhaps Kacmarek working his way back from an injury contributed to the snap count. But if Miami wants more teeth in the run game and more sustained drives, I would imagine that Kacmarek getting more run would be helpful.
EDGE Clelin Ferrell
Ferrell played 11 snaps in Week 1 against the Raiders. Pass rusher Chop Robinson is now in concussion protocol, which could open the door for much more in the way of opportunity. That is, of course, assuming Ferrell is once again elevated off of the practice squad for this game.
I think he should be. Miami gave plenty of run to Malik Herring (32 snaps) and Robert Beal Jr. (14 snaps) in Las Vegas. And while Ferrell isn’t likely a fit for all of the reduced alignment work that Herring took inside of offensive tackles, he’s an experienced player and Miami was sorely lacking with their edge-setting on defense for parts of the game.
DL Keith Cooper Jr.
Cooper played 15 snaps against Las Vegas. I don’t know how or where the math sorts out for him to get on the field more, but he’s a great story as someone who made the 53-man roster and Cooper looked the part in his limited action against Las Vegas. If this season is all about finding guys who can be valuable pieces and contributors long-term, then Cooper should start seeing a steady bump in snaps on the rotation. That is, of course, until he shows he’s not deserving of them anymore .
