The New Orleans Saints kind of embarrassed the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.
At a minimum, they made the Jags look silly.
And the Saints didn’t even have to do anything to make it happen.
New Jaguars contract extension looks rough compared to a similar extension for the Saints
On Wednesday, the Jaguars signed tight end Brenton Strange to a three-year extension worth up to $48 million.
Strange has 91 receptions for 986 yards and six touchdowns through the first three seasons of his NFL career.
The closest comp to Strange may be Saints tight end Juwan Johnson, who signed a three-year extension worth $30 million before the 2026 season.
Johnson, who was coming off a similar season as Strange did in 2025, went on to have the best season of his career in 2026, catching 77 passes for 889 yards and three touchdowns. That’s incredible value considering the price of the extension for Johnson.
Maybe Strange has a similar season — that would be quite a jump — but even if he does, the Jaguars will be paying significantly more for similar production.
The Jaguars didn’t necessarily make a bad move here, but the Saints’ extension with Johnson is undoubtedly a better value. And you’ve gotta think that Jacksonville’s front office is envious of what New Orleans was able to pull off with Johnson.
