The New Orleans Saints made a very intriguing move on Wednesday.
They announced the practice squad signing of tight end Michael Jacobson, a former basketball player that looms at 6'7.
Jimmy Graham is well-known for being a star basketball player-turned NFL TE. Now, he may get to mentor another similar type of player to his younger self.
Jacobson only played basketball in college, but he did play football in high school. His NFL career started in 2021 when he signed with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. He has spent time with the Indianapolis Colts over the past two years.
The now tight end averaged 11.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his best season at Iowa State. For his college basketball player profile, click here.
It will be difficult for Jacobson to join the active roster. Even with his size and potential red zone usage, the Saints have their TE depth set with Jimmy Graham, Juwan Johnson, and Foster Moreau. Taysom Hill plays a role there as well.
Regardless, it is a unique add to their practice squad by the Saints.
