The Philadelphia Eagles training camp injury report is raising some eyebrows, and not just because of one or two names. Lane Johnson has now missed four consecutive days of practice with an excused, non-injury-related absence. Hope everything is good with Lane. It sounds like he should be back soon, but in the meantime, the Eagles have been giving reps to Markel Bell and others with the first-team offensive line, experimenting with different looks up front. Still, you need your anchor at right tackle, and that’s Lane Johnson. Simple as that.

Hamstring concerns piling up at wide receiver

Beyond Johnson, the bigger concern might be what’s happening at wide receiver. Both Makai Lemon and DeVonta Smith are dealing with hamstring injuries, and they’re not alone. Landon Dickerson got a rest day, Britain Covey is also nursing a hamstring, and when you add it all up, that’s four hamstring injuries on one report. I don’t know what the curse of the hammy is in Philadelphia right now, but it’s something the Eagles need to monitor closely.

Lemon has already missed a couple days of practice, and DeVonta Smith has now missed at least two as well. If these turn out to be anything more than minor soft-tissue issues, the Eagles are going to need to take a hard look at their wide receiver depth. You can’t control injuries, but you can control how prepared you are for them.

The good news? Philadelphia still has Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, Dontayvion Wicks, and others in the receiver room who can soak up reps and keep things moving. But none of those guys are DeVonta Smith. None of them bring what Makai Lemon could bring as a young, explosive weapon. You want your top guys healthy and building chemistry with Jalen Hurts under a new offensive system. That’s the whole point of training camp.

The Eagles are clearly being cautious, and that’s the right approach in early August. There’s no reason to push anybody when the regular season is still weeks away. But if these hamstring issues linger, don’t be surprised if Howie Roseman starts making some calls about adding receiver depth before the preseason wraps up. This roster is built to compete, and keeping the skill positions healthy is a massive part of that equation.
