Too early Eagles’ 53-man roster projection: Philadelphia trades A.J. Brown, make decision at backup QB, and more

The Philadelphia Eagles will have plenty of tough choices to make in order to create a 53-man roster to begin the season. With that, let’s predict the moves they make regarding young and veteran talent.

The first few waves of NFL free agency has wrapped, and the 2026 NFL Draft has concluded. Teams now shift their thoughts to practice preparation and minicamp that is just around the corner.

With that, it is worth taking a look at an early roster projection for a Philadelphia Eagles active roster for next season.

Philadelphia Eagles 2026 53-man roster projection after 2026 NFL Draft

Quarterback (3)

Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton, Cole Payton

The Skinny: I’m not sure if the Eagles want to keep three quarterbacks on the roster at all times, especially after trading for veteran backup Andy Dalton. That being said, Payton could be seen as a utility player along with a passer.

A Tanner McKee trade feels more likely than ever after they drafted Cole Payton.

Running back (3)

Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley

The Skinny: This may be the simplest one of all. I could see a fourth here if needed, but I’m not sure they’ll choose that route over an extra defensive back or pass rusher active on game days.

Wide Receiver (5)

Makai Lemon, Devonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown, Britain Covey

The Skinny: This group predicts A.J. Brown getting traded post-June 1. Lemon joins the depth chart after being a first-round pick. Will be interesting to see who makes the team between Covey, Darius Cooper, and Quez Watkins.

Tight End (4)

Dallas Goedert, Eli Stowers, Johnny Mundt, Grant Calcaterra

The Skinny: The Eagles added Mundt to the mix here as an experienced blocker at the TE position. Stowers joins this group and may force the Birds to keep four TEs on the active roster, depending on how much they like the latter two on this list.

Offensive Tackles (5)

Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson, Markel Bell, Cameron Williams, Fred Johnson

Johnson considered retirement this offseason, and 2026 could be his final season. Williams should be retained as a swing tackle option. Bell joins this group as a developmental option and potential replacement plan for Johnson if the Eagles can help him improve as a rookie.

Interior Offensive Line (6)

Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Jake Majors, Willie Lampkin, Micah Morris

Majors is a swing here for a backup center option. Lampkin will never be a starter, but he is roster-able for the Eagles next season. Morris was a day three selection in this year’s draft.

EDGE rusher (4)

Jonathan Greenard, Nolan Smith Jr., Arnold Ebiketie, Jalyx Hunt

The Skinny: Greenard leads this pass rush quartet now. The Pro Bowl EDGE is also signed to an extension, so the younger options here won’t have nearly as much pressure on them to perform immediately now.

Interior Defensive Line (5)

Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Ty Robinson, Byron Young, Moro Ojomo

The Skinny: This is clear cut to me. Ojomo will move around a bit, as can Young. That being said, another rookie addition could also help the depth here. In this scenario, though, I added those picks to larger positions of need. Carter and Davis leading this group once again is exciting for Eagles fans.

Linebacker (5)

Zack Baun, Jihaad Campbell, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon Jr., Chance Campbell

The Skinny: With Nakobe Dean out, Jihaad Campbell and Trotter will both need to step up. Mondon has proven to be a nice special teams option, but I wonder if we even see more of him on defense, too. Plenty to still shake out at this spot for Vic Fangio.

Cornerback (6)

Quinyon Mitchell, Tariq Woolen, Cooper DeJean, Jonathan Jones, Jakorian Bennett, Kelee Ringo

The Skinny: This group looks notable deeper with the FA additions of Woolen and Jones. Bennett and Thomas may be interchangeable with some current options on the roster, but I feel best a bout them right now. Adding another cornerback sometime on day three may make the most sense when it comes to a rookie piece.

Safety (4)

Andrew Mukuba, JT Gray, Marcus Epps, Cole Wisniewski

The Skinny: I am still concerned about this group right now. The Birds did not address the spot in the draft early on, so a free agent addition feels necessary still. Mukuba is a player they like plenty, but he is the most talented player in the room currently and is coming off an injury.

Specialists (3)

Jake Elliott (K), Braden Mann (P), Long Snapper (TBD)

Let us know who you think could make the Eagles 53-man roster for Week 1! Did we miss someone? Will another rookie or FA addition earn a spot?
