NFL insider shuts down Steelers’ wide receiver trade rumor that quarterback Aaron Rodgers would never have signed off on
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been tied to New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson as the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaches. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has now addressed the chatter twice, and his second update went well beyond the Jets.
Talk of the Pittsburgh Steelers trading for New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been building for weeks, and the idea isn’t crazy on paper. I ran a Steelers-Jets trade for Wilson through the A to Z Sports trade simulator, and the result was a fair deal for both sides. Pittsburgh would send a second-round pick to New York and take on Wilson’s contract.
There’s just one problem. The trade isn’t going to happen.

Adam Schefter shuts down the Garrett Wilson trade talk
Over the weekend, ESPN’s Adam Schefter put a damper on the speculation.
“One well-placed source told ESPN this weekend that there is no way the Jets will trade Garrett Wilson by the NFL’s November 10th trade deadline, despite any interest from other teams,” said Schefter on social media.
That alone should have ended the conversation, but Schefter doubled down Tuesday. This time he went after the Pittsburgh connection specifically, and he brought up the Steelers’ quarterback while doing it. Here is what Schefter said, via Steelers Depot:
“I was told last week no way they trade him. And I love these people that bring up Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson. I don’t think people know that full relationship there. I don’t know that that would work. That’s not happening.”
Garrett Wilson isn’t being traded to Pittsburgh. The most plugged-in insider in the league is telling you as much, and he’s doing it in two separate updates.
Why the Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson relationship matters
Set aside the cost for a moment. Yes, the Steelers would have to part with a second-round pick and absorb Wilson’s contract. That’s a steep price for a team in the middle of a season.
The truth is, the bigger obstacle is the relationship between Rodgers and Wilson, which never appeared to be a good one during their time together with the Jets.
Rodgers offered a hint of that in a social media post well over a year ago. In it, he talked about how much he appreciated DK Metcalf coming to him with questions and wanting to learn more, despite Metcalf being the undisputed No. 1 wide receiver in Pittsburgh. Rodgers went on to say he had good experiences with receivers doing that in Green Bay, but not so much in New York.
So who was he talking about? He never named anyone, but I think it’s pretty clear Rodgers was pointing at Wilson. Schefter saying he doesn’t think people know “that full relationship there” only adds fuel to that fire.

Steelers fans can stop waiting on a Garrett Wilson deal
Every trade deadline produces its share of ideas that sound great until you look closer. A certain NFL insider (who we don’t need to name) and plenty of fans poking around the idea have pushed the Steelers as a landing spot for Wilson. Looking at the full picture, those ideas are pretty asinine.
To be clear, I would love to see Wilson in black and gold. He’s a great player, and he would give Pittsburgh a legitimate option next to Metcalf and Germie Bernard. However, wanting something and it being realistic are two very different things.
Look at what the Steelers would be signing up for. Their quarterback and the receiver they’d be acquiring don’t appear to get along. The deal would cost a second-round pick. Pittsburgh would have to take on Wilson’s contract. And the top NFL insider in the business is saying it’s not going to happen, twice.
When every one of those factors points in the same direction, it’s fair to say Wilson isn’t coming to Pittsburgh. If the Steelers want to add a receiver before the Nov. 10 deadline, they’ll need to look somewhere other than New York.
