Mike Williams surprisingly retires from NFL
Veteran wide receiver Mike Williams plans to retire. A former Chargers draft pick, the wideout returned to Los Angeles this offseason after signing a deal during free agency. He won't end up playing a snap in his return.

Williams finishes his pro career with 330 receptions, 5,104 yards, and 32 touchdowns. He emerged as a Chargers fan favorite early in his NFL career, but injuries seemed to always keep his status on edge. Finally, it seems those have mounted to a point of no return for the long-time pass catcher.
This news only compounds an issue for the Bolts. Rookie WR Tre Harris is currently holding out, since he has not signed a rookie contract with the team yet. That leaves the depth chart at receiver rather barren behind Ladd McConkey.
Quentin Johnston remains, but his inconsistency over the last two seasons is a real concern. He should be nothing more than a WR3, at best, for LA. Derius Davis is the only other option at wideout currently rostered that has notable NFL experience and production.
For the Chargers, adding another target in the passing game is now more of a need rather than a want. They've simply got to make a move to add another wide receiver before the season begins. If they don't, one injury could absolutely doom their passing game.
