Cam Skattebo lit the college football world on fire this past season. He was a consistent force out of the backfield for Arizona State and dominated Texas in the College Football Playoff.
Could the big-bodied running back be a potential target for the New Orleans Saints? They may get lucky following the latest report on Skattebo's draft stock around the league.
Cam Skattebo's potential fall
According to Daniel Jeremiah, Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo, a Heisman finalist, may be rated lower by the NFL than general draft media right now. In many mock drafts, he goes in round two or three. That may not be realistic at this point, though.
It sounds like there's potential for him to fall further, maybe into the fourth or fifth round range. If that's the case during the draft, the Saints should take advantage and select him.
The fit with the Saints
The fit makes all of the sense in the world for New Orleans. Alvin Kamara is a shifty, elusive mover at the running back position. Meanwhile, Skattebo is a ruthless bruiser that can pick up the tough yards for a pro offense.
“I’m physical. People don’t think I’m as fast as I am, but I am fast. Punish the defender because they don’t want to do it for four quarters…My objective at the end of the day is to get to the end zone.” — Cam Skattebo
The former Sun Devil would be an awesome complement for Kellen Moore's unit, and he would provide energy as depth. You cannot doubt his determination, and he would flourish in a role that does not force him to start at the next level, too.
Skattebo landed in New Orleans in a recent mock draft as well. He was the selection at the 112th overall selection. Love that sort of value for a player who could play a role immediately as Alvin Kamara's backup in his rookie year.
Despite the extension, the Saints could move on from Alvin Kamara after 2025 due to his wildly high cap hit. Cam Skattebo would be a fun, physical, versatile starter of the future for New Orleans whenever Kamara is gone. – Travis May
Skattebo won't blow anyone away with his breakaway speed, but the Saints have a contingency of other pressing needs on their roster. Drafting Skattebo on day three would be a really smart move for the future on Kellen Moore's offense.
New Orleans Saints take huge risk and it backfires in latest 2-round 2025 NFL mock draft for Kellen Moore’s offense
The 2025 NFL Draft is just a week away. The New Orleans are still getting their plan together, following the news that Derek Carr may not be their starting QB next season. In the most recent A to Z Sports mock draft that spanned two rounds, the Saints did not take a QB early, but […]
