The New Orleans Saints are adjusting to a bit of a shift for their future. Derek Carr may never play another snap for the team, following the latest update on his shoulder injury. The news came out of nowhere, but it is the reality. His future is quite cloudy in New Orleans.

A former Saints defender discussed Carr's handling of the situation and lack of involvement in workouts to begin this week, ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Scott Shanle gets honest about Carr

My two cents about Derek Carr shoulder injury news. If he's pouting because the Saints are gonna look for a young QB in the draft he's too thin skinned to be your quarterback and the guys in that locker room deserve better. A competitive person would say it's time to play so well the young guy won't touch the field anyways. Nothing is promised to anyone in the NFL. Everyone's time comes to an end. Nobody is owed anything.

If really injured should be at facility and surrounded by surgery specialists today! Mrs Benson didn't pay you 40 million dollars a year to do car reviews on YouTube.

Tough times will always reveal a man's character.

Shanle did not hold back, but he was simply honest about his thoughts on the current situation, based on what he knows. You have to respect that.

The unknown with Carr's future

Neither side seems particularly happy with the QB situation. The Saints may want to move on under new head coach Kellen Moore, and Carr seems disinterested in staying with New Orleans if they want to add another young quarterback option.

"It appears the information got out from the Derek Carr side of it… because I think he is the one who isn't thrilled with the Saints at this point. …

Maybe this is Derek Carr saying 'I don't want the Kirk Cousins treatment." Dianna Russini

No one truly knows how much communication there has been between the veteran QB and the organization. The Saints have been planning to do homework on the upcoming QB class in the draft, regardless of Carr's playing future.

We will see if New Orleans walks away with one of Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, or another rookie option. Kellen Moore is ready to start a new era in black and gold.
