A Tennessee Vols recruiting target that's set to visit Rocky Top in a couple of weeks made a comment about the Alabama Crimson Tide this week that probably isn't accurate.
2026 four-star wide receiver Corey Barber, 6-foot-1/180 lbs from Birmingham, AL, is being pursued by some of the top programs in the nation.
Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are among the programs in the mix for Barber.
Barber recently spoke to On3 about his recruitment and he noted that one of the reasons he's interested in the Crimson Tide is because he views Alabama as "Wide Receiver U".
“Alabama in my eyes is WRU they produce the best wide receivers in college and that coaching helps them be one step ahead of other guys in the league," said Barber. "I’m very excited about what Coach (Kalen) DeBoer is building at Alabama and I’m ready to get down to see it in the spring."
Alabama's produced some elite NFL wide receivers in recent years (albeit under previous head coach Nick Saban), and they have another on the way to the NFL (in two years) in Ryan Williams. But there's no chance that Alabama is "WRU" right now.
The only two programs that can make that claim based on the last 5 to 10 years are the LSU Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase, two of the top wide receivers in the NFL, played at LSU. Two young wide receivers who look like soon-to-be superstars, Brian Thomas Jr and Malik Nabers, also played at LSU.
Meanwhile, stud NFL wide receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, Terry McLaurin, and Marvin Harrison Jr all played at Ohio State. Emeka Egbuka will join that group in 2025 as he's expected to be a first round selection in the NFL draft later this spring. Additionally, Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate will be on the way to the NFL in the coming years.
Every program in the nation is chasing LSU and Ohio State right now for the "WRU" moniker.
