The Detroit Lions went through a near complete overhaul with their coaching staff this offseason and they brought on a good amount of coaches from the college ranks. Tyler Roehl from Iowa State, Caleb Colling from Baylor and Tashard Choice from Texas.
In an effort to get to know those coaches a little bit more, we asked draft prospects from Iowa State, Baylor, and Texas. Here's what we were able to learn:
Running backs coach Tashard Choice
Texas running back Jaydon Blue had a glowing review for Choice.
"Yeah, that's my dog man. He not only made me a better player off the field, but on the field, you know. He's a guy they want to go to whenever they're going through something, you know, off the field. And he just a genius when it comes to the running back position. You know, he could do a lot of things. He's coached a lot of guys in the NFL, so, you know, he brings a lot to the coaching staff."
Texas safety Andrew Mukuba also added some nice words.
"First of all, they're getting a great guy. That's just the type of person he is. I've been knowing coach Choice since high school. He recruited me for Georgia Tech. He's a guy that's real energetic. If he's in the building, you know he's in the building because of how energetic he is. If he sees you're down, I say it's like an aura thing. Just being around him gives you a positive vibe and lifts you up."
Tight ends coach Tyler Roehl
Here's what Iowa State receiver Jayden Higgins had to say about Roehl:
"Coach Roehl is a great guy, a high energy guy. He's always going to come to the facility ready to go. First time I met him, he acts like one of the guys that's been there forever. So he's a great guy."
Higgins' fellow Iowa State receiver Jaylin Noel echoed Higgins' sentiments.
"Very energetic. He's gonna come and be a very energetic guy each day. He's going to be the same person every day, no matter if he's tired or not. I've probably never seen him tired to be honest because how much energy he brings each day. He gets the juices going within an offense. He's a great coach."
Iowa State safety Darien Porter talked about the impact that Roehl brought in 2024.
"Coach Roehl was only here for my last year, but in that year he made a great impact on the team and in that running back room and just the whole organization in general. The Lions are going to get a great coach. They should be happy they hired him."
Defensive Assistant Caleb Collins
Collins was Baylor outside linebacker Steven Linton's position coach and Linton talked about how much Collins helped him.
"I think he'll bring a good value to the team. Not even just physical, but he's a spiritual person too. I think he'll be a good fit for the Lions. He helped me with football smarts, X's and O's. I wasn't great at it before I got to Baylor. He helped with all those things."
The Lions have met with multiple quarterbacks at the NFL Combine including Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, what that could mean for Hendon Hooker’s future
The Detroit Lions have been talking to a lot of different positions at the NFL Combine this week, but quarterback is one that maybe most felt they would avoid. That has not been the case. The Lions have met with multiple quarterbacks in Indianapolis including Alabama's Jalen Milroe. The Lions are obviously set with Jared […]
