Jets continue useless offseason trend that hasn’t helped anything

We have no idea at this point who is going to be throwing passes for the New York Jets in 2025 and it is growing increasing likely that we will have no idea who will be catching those passes either.
The Jets will likely trade or release Davante Adams at some point in the next few weeks and now another former Green Bay Packer wide receiver is joining him on the chopping block. Allen Lazard has been granted permission by the team to seek a trade effectively ending his tenure in New York.
Lazard was the prize free agent wide receiver acquisition back in 2023 when the Jets hoped to pair him with Aaron Rodgers in order to bring the high-powered Green Bay offense to New York, but when Rodgers went down in the first series of the 2024 season, Lazard’s production went with it.
Lazard got a four-year contract for $44 million from the Jets and if not for the price tag and Rodgers’ input, he may have been cut after the first year. He was a healthy scratch for a few games in 2023 and was a non-factor in almost every other game.
Lazard played in just 14 games for the Jets and caught 23 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown. He seemed to have more drops and penalties than he did catches. When Rodgers returned last season, Lazard still struggled despite having his old buddy there to throw him the ball. He had 37 grabs for 530 yards and six touchdowns. The issue was the drops and the penalties were still very much a part of his game.
Lazard was so bad for the Jets that they were forced to make a deal to bring in Davante Adams mid-season to sure up the receiving core and maybe turn the season around (spoiler: it did not work). Without Aaron Rodgers in New York, Lazard is not likely to have any allies begging for him to stay, even if veteran backup Tyrod Taylor is the Jets' starter in 2025.
The Jets are going to have a hard time getting anything for Lazard, considering his lack of production, inflated contract and the fact that any team who may be interested in him will simply have to wait for the Jets to release him, which they are sure to do. Lazard will find very few teams willing to give $11 million a year for his production and even less willing to give the Jets something to acquire it. This idea of seeking a trade in the offseason for bad players is a useless trend that we are seeing too much of in the NFL. If the Jets get anything for the 29-year-old they should take it and be grateful for the asset.
At this point the Jets are saying they are willing to bring Lazard back, but this was obviously a failed experiment and it will be better for both the player and the team to go their separate ways.
Jets are to blame for setback in Jordan Travis’ rehab from leg injury according to his agent
When you have the league’s worst owner as voted on by the players, and you haven’t made the playoffs in almost a decade and a half, you open yourself up to be blamed for a lot of things, even if they aren’t really your fault. That is the case the New York Jets find themselves […]
