After agreeing to terms to bring back safety Damar Hamlin, Brandon Beane kept his foot on the gas, adding depth to the room before what will likely be a competition during training camp.
Darrick Forrest, formerly of the Washington Commanders, joins the Bills on a one-year deal, and will have a chance to compete for playing time, and perhaps even a starting role.
"Bad luck has been the definition of Forrest's career, thus far. He missed the first nine games of his rookie year after getting placed on IR at the start of the season. He then proceeded to play a healthy sophomore season that saw him record four interceptions and make a name for himself by playing 81% of defensive snaps," A to Z's Evan Winter said about Forrest.
"But, tragedy struck just five games into the 2023 season. He fractured his shoulder and missed the rest of the year. Both defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and head coach Ron Rivera were fired and Forrest never gained traction with Dan Quinn and Co., as evidenced by multiple healthy scratches last year."
"He's a solid athlete that has 4.4 speed at 5-foot-11, 206-pounds. It remains to be seen what the Bills are truly getting, but there's certainly a chance Forrest can surprise some people in 2025."
If Forrest is able to stay healthy, without a lack of top-end talent at the safety position on the Bills roster, he'll have every opportunity to kick the door down and get his career back on track. The former fifth-round pick gets a fresh start with a defensive system and coaches that have a long track record of developing secondary talent, so it's a landing spot that he'll try to make the most out of.
