Terron Armstead retires
Former Saints Pro Bowl offensive tackle Terron Armstead has retired from the NFL. Armstead made 131 starts over the course of his pro career and was a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He played twelves seasons in the NFL, nine with the Saints.
Armstead was a pivotal part of some of the best offenses in team history. He was the blindside for Drew Brees and paved the way for a consistent running game under head coach Sean Payton as well.
Injuries certainly played a role in him calling it a career earlier than many would have predicted. Armstead never managed to play a full schedule of games in a regular season. He missed 13 contests with the Miami Dolphins over the past three years due to multiple injuries.
Drew Brees pays tribute
During a celebration party for Armstead's career, where he discussed his decision, the legendary Saints quarterback
"I remember when Terron Armstead first came into our locker room in 2013. He did not start immediately, but it would become evident to all that first year that he was going to be a starting left tackle in our league for a very long time. Not only did that combination of size, speed, strength and athleticism take over, but also the knowledge, leadership and sacrifice he brought to that offensive line and to our entire team elevated everything we did on and off the field. I could not have asked for more from a teammate for the eight years we were together, whom I am also proud to call a friend. Congratulations to Terron on an outstanding career and best of luck in what is sure to be a successful next chapter."
Alvin Kamara, Cameron Jordan, Erik McCoy, and Demario Davis all also made statements regarding Armstead's role in the team's success during his time in New Orleans.
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis also made a statement regarding Armstead's decision to hang up his cleats.
"It is with great respect, appreciation and gratitude as we congratulate Terron Armstead on a fantastic career. He was an outstanding player, teammate and friend and we look forward to formally recognizing his outstanding accomplishments in front of our tremendous fanbase in the near future." — Loomis
One thing is abundantly clear. Armstead was a key piece for the Saints' offense for quite some time, and a lot of folks appreciate his impact on the franchise.
