Woody Johnson's latest comments prove that he will never change his awful ways as Jets' owner

There is ignorance. There is stupidity. And then there is willfully ignorant. Woody Johnson had previously dipped his toes into the first two categories, but now it seems like he is doing a full-on cannonball into the “willfully ignorant” pool.

Back in February, the NFL Players Association released its annual report card where the players grade organizations on everything from treatment of families, to facilities, to dietitians, to ownership, and more.

The Jets organization finished 29th out of 32 teams with the two major issues being Woody Johnson and the food. The Jets dropped from 21st last year to 29th this season. Johnson was given an F, the only owner in the NFL to be graded that low. Johnson received a B- last year. When the organization held a press conference to introduce new coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey, Johnson said: “I have to be a better owner.”

A promising remark for Jets fans to hear, as Johnson seemed to have recognized that he was a major issue in the organization. And of course, identifying the problem is the first step in solving it.

Not so fast.

Now Woody Johnson is singing a new tune about the NFLPA survey, and it sounds an awful lot like someone who has his head in the sand when it comes to facing his own faults.

“My first read is I think it’s totally bogus,” said Johnson, speaking to reporters at the NFL owners’ meetings on Monday. “But we want to get better every day. I want to be No. 1 in everything.”

How dense can he possibly be? The players in your organization took a survey and they all said with resounding clarity that you are a problem, and your response is to call the survey bogus. The players used their outlet to share what they truly thought of the job you are doing without fear of repercussion due to the anonymity of the survey and you find the best course of action is to dismiss it as false.

When asked in a follow-up what specifically about the survey was bogus, Johnson answered: “The whole thing. How they collected the information, who they collected it from, it’s supposed to be a process where we have representatives and they have representatives so we know it’s an honest survey. And that was violated in my opinion. So, I’ll leave it at that. But there’s a lot of owners that looked at this survey and said this is not fair, not balanced, it’s not every player, it’s not even representative of the players.”

I can tell you with absolute clarity Woody, that the fans feel even more strongly than the players do about the job you are doing. The only reason the fans would give you a grade of an "F" is because there isn't anything lower.

You are the common thread in 14 years of missed expectations. You are the biggest deterrent to any executive, coach, or player who is considering the idea of making a home with the New York Jets. You are the reason for bags on heads and the hailstorm of “boos” and chants of “sell the team” from the crowd. You are the reason that the Jets are a punchline instead of a championship organization.

But sure, I’ll bet the players survey was “bogus”.
