They're intrigued by some of the names in this class, and they are certainly doing their homework on the QB prospects in this year's class. That interest has cast a bit of a shadow on the future of Derek Carr as well.
Saints' interest in rookie QB prospects
The New Orleans Saints are doing their work on this class of rookie quarterbacks. They've met with Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart, along with attending his Pro Day.
They also watched Cam Ward impress everyone at his Pro Day, even though there's a strong conviction currently that he will go first overall to the Tennessee Titans. Adam Schefter mentioned the Saints as a possible trade-up candidate for Ward.
New Orleans also met with QB prospects expected to go on day two or three of the draft, like Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers, former Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers, among others. Shedeur Sanders is another option, too.
Albert Breer recently alluded to more unknown regarding the future of Derek Carr in New Orleans. There was a strong belief that he would be the starting QB next season, but now, there's a bit more uncertainty around the league on that front.
We'd written over the past couple of weeks how the situation between the New Orleans Saints and Derek Carr was worth keeping an eye on-then how the team maxing out his restructure (taking his base salary to the minimum and converting the difference into a signing bonus) probably dashed any chance of a trade. What it didn't dash, though, was the idea New Orleans could draft a quarterback. And along those lines, that Saints coach Kellen Moore was personally at Dart's pro day isn't insignificant. — Albert Breer
Carr sought a trade before reworking his contract with New Orleans, according to NewOrleans.Football. There are still questions that remain about his future as the starting QB of the Saints, even though Kellen Moore made positive comments regarding the veteran QB earlier in the offseason.
No matter what – the Saints are keeping QB on their radar when it comes to this year's draft. The end of April could get really interesting for the future of New Orleans' offense.
