According to a report from Josina Anderson, there are people within the New York Jets organization who support Tyrod Taylor as the team’s starting quarterback for 2025.
One thing I have gathered in my various conversations is that Tyrod Taylor has multiple supporters in the building. Not only are there people who hold Taylor in a higher regard than one might think for a player who only played in two games in the green and white last season, but certain individuals in that building are complimentary of his ability to pass and run an offense. I’m not guaranteeing anything about any player’s status. I’m telling you about some sentiments that do exist in that building. -Josina Anderson
The Jets don’t have any clear answer at the quarterback position despite whatever Aaron Glenn might say. After announcing the release of Aaron Rodgers, the Jets are searching for a new starter to compete with Taylor for the 2025 season.
There are no good answers for the Jets at quarterback in 2025 as far as I can tell. It is a weak quarterback class and the Jets will likely have to move up to get either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, despite what Mel Kiper thinks. The Jets are likely not the top destination for free agent quarterbacks, and I wouldn’t want some of them even if they wanted to come to the Jets.
With the Jets brass currently in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, they are keeping an eye out for a diamond in the rough, or as Aaron Glenn likes to say, “winners”.
If the Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey can somehow sell this starved fanbase on a one-year rebuild, Tyrod Taylor is a good choice to play quarterback. He is a veteran leader who can win some games if he can stay healthy. With a potential loaded draft class next year, the Jets wouldn’t need a top five pick to get a quarterback of the future. But that would mean North American sports’ longest playoff drought will likely get another year longer.
The 35-year old Tyrod is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. After four years in Baltimore, Taylor signed on with the Bills for the 2015 season. Buffalo then elected to trade Taylor to the Browns for a third-round pick.
Taylor then became the ultimate journeyman quarterback. Taylor played out the final year of a two-year, $30.5 million contract before agreeing to a two-year contract worth $11 million with the Chargers. He then signed a one-year deal with the Texans worth up to $12.5 million for the 2021 season. During the 2022 offseason, Taylor signed a two-year, $17 million deal to be the Giants’ backup quarterback. After playing out that deal, Taylor signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Jets.
In 2024, Taylor appeared in two games for the Jets and completed 17 of 22 pass attempts for 114 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
It’s not the worst plan for the Jets at quarterback considering the low-risk involved. But it won’t win too many games wither.
Garrett Wilson has more control when it comes to fixing Jets’ QB problem than he realizes
The New York Jets have a new face of the franchise if he wants to hang around the organization, and he might be responsible for his own fate on the field. In a recent article, ESPN NFL analyst Ben Solak gave his path to QB reclamation projects in the NFL. He lists quarterbacks who may […]
