The Minnesota Vikings are going to be a team to watch when it comes to the NFL Draft. Despite having just four picks, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been one of the more fascinating drafters over the last few years.
Adofo-Mensah has made his mark trading up and down on the board to target players that he wants to bring in, including getting both J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner with trade ups in the 2024 NFL Draft.
What could they end up doing in April's NFL Draft? Our own Ian Valentino did a seven round mock draft with some interesting selections.
24: Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame
It's easy to forget that Notre Dame's best defender missed the entire season with an injury. Minnesota could grab an interior lineman here, but I think they address that in free agency. Benjamin Morrison gives Brian Flores an elite man corner to deploy, taking his unit up a whole new notch.
Morrison is quite an interesting prospect. Going into the season, some called Morrison the top overall cornerback prospect in this draft. Unfortunately, he injured his hip halfway through the season and the severity of that injury is still unknown.
That's what makes this pick so difficult to parse out. Is it a hip fracture? Was there damage to the joint? The unknown nature of the injury makes this selection a difficult one, but if he's healthy, Morrison would be a steal at 24th overall.
97. Jared Wilson, IOL, Georgia
This is a really interesting pick. The Vikings do need more help on the interior of the offensive line, but is Wilson the right guy for the Vikings to add to their roster.
Wilson is a talented, athletic center, but his profile is too similar to Garrett Bradbury's and that is exactly what the Vikings want to find a way to replace. Wilson could be a good pro, but bringing in a player just like Bradbury wouldn't be a smart move.
140. LeQuint Allen, RB, Syracuse
The running back class is one of the best we've seen in recent memory. There will be prospects with upward of 30 players who will receive draftable grades. Because of that, some talented players will end up falling down the board.
Allen is one of those players who could be overlooked. He's been the engine behind that Syracuse offense the last two seasons and he's done it through the air and on the ground. Allen is a true three-down player that can maximize what you do and could be a good player to pair with Aaron Jones.
161. Tyler Batty, EDGE, BYU
This one is an interesting selection. Batty feels like a base 4-3 DE with his size and pass rush profile. He is 6', 5" and 275 lbs and excels as a run defender. Because of his size profile, the athleticism isn't quite there for Batty.
This pick doesn't make a ton of sense for how the Vikings play football, as they don't need more edge rush help, especially with a player that is likely limited as an athlete. Plus, adding an undersized interior run defender doesn't make a ton of sense either. The fit just isn't here with Batty.
