There were plenty of intriguing comments from the newest head coach of the New Orleans Saints during his introductory press conference on Thursday. Kellen Moore was composed and excited for the future.
When asked about the future of quarterback Derek Carr, Moore was incredibly respectful. At the same time, he made no commitment to the veteran QB.
Kellen Moore noncommittal on Carr
“I view it as Derek Carr is a tremendous starting quarterback in this league, we’re fortunate to have him, and we’re excited to go through this process as we build this roster. Again, I'm meeting these guys for the first time the last few days. I'm really excited to meet more of them, and this will be a lot of fun…”

Moving on from Carr this offseason won't provide a ton of salary cap relief, but it would open up a complete reset at the QB position. Releasing or trading him could both be on the table.
The young head coach may choose to keep him in the building as a player with major experience, but it also seems plausible that he will want his "own guy" to be the expected starter in 2025.
That could be Spencer Rattler, a rookie QB, or a veteran from free agency. Only time will tell which route Moore chooses.
Plenty of folks also noticed something about the video from the team that was posted to social media this morning. It showed Moore entering the Saints' facility with players in attendance, cheering him on.
Saints center Erik McCoy greeted Moore, rather than Carr. That could be nothing, or it could be a bit of a nod to the expectations going forward at quarterback in Carr (or the team's) mind.
Regardless, Moore said exactly what a professional would regarding Carr and the future at QB in New Orleans.
