The Chicago Bears landed the most coveted head coaching candidate in recent years this offseason in former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

He is now tasked with fixing the Bears' offense, and that starts with helping 2024 first-overall pick Caleb Williams make a sophomore leap this season. A new A to Z Sports mock draft has Ben Johnson and the Bears adopting the Lions' roster blueprint, which would greatly benefit Williams and their offense.

Bears land Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty in a new 2025 NFL Mock Draft

"Ben Johnson's first draft pick as the head coach of the Bears is him giving Caleb Williams a high-end run game by adding running back Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty had a historical season and finished as the runner-up for the Heisman trophy. And Johnson's offense was at its best in Detroit when the run game was a significant factor."

New A to Z Sports Mock Draft

Jeanty fell just short of winning the Heisman in 2024, but what he was able to do at Boise State won't be forgotten anytime soon. He was the catalyst for their offense, which landed a spot in the college football playoff. He finished the season with a FBS best 2,601 yards on 374 carries and rushed for 29 touchdowns.

The Bears' starting running back in 2024, D'Andre Swift, had a solid season in rushing for 959 yards and six touchdowns, but he isn't a game changer at the RB position. Adding Jeanty wouldn't completely remove Swift from the team's plans, though. We saw Johnson build some excellent game plans with a two-RB backfield with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Johnson saw how well the Lions drafting Gibbs early in the draft worked out in Detroit. So, I don't think he would have any problem using pick 10 in 2025 on an RB if one talented enough was available. And I don't think anyone would argue Jeanty isn't talented enough to warrant the selection.
