Former Colts RB Trey Sermon signs with the Steelers

Trey Sermon spent the last two years with the Colts after signing with the team ahead of the 2023 season. He appeared in 31 games and made three starts, rushing for 319 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers both nearly double the rest of his production in the NFL. This past year was technically his best statistical season in the NFL, though his ineffectiveness as a runner became clear for the Colts.
This led many to believe the Colts would look elsewhere to be Jonathan Taylor's backup in 2025. The team drafted DJ Giddens in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he is now the favorite to be the RB two on the team's depth chart come week one. On top of drafting Giddens, the team also signed veteran Khalil Hebert in the offseason to join Tyler Goodson to give the Colts a significantly improved RB room on paper. He didn't work out with the Colts, but Sermon is a strong pass blocker for an RB and is joining a Steelers RB room that has multiple players set to compete to be Jaylen Warren.
