‘This entire situation could explode’—NFL insider believes the Indianapolis Colts are a powder keg ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline
One NFL insider thinks it could be no holds barred for the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline.
The Indianapolis Colts nearly stole one on Sunday against the NFL’s last undefeated team. Instead, they became the latest victim of the NFL’s most ferocious defense. The Colts joined a growing club of franchises who failed to surpass 100 net passing yards against the Vikings. And, in the process, their season was pushed further to the brink.
The NFL trade deadline looms large for the Colts now. With Indianapolis sitting at 2-5, missing a first-round draft choice, and currently without a general manager? It’s shaping up to be a tense week or so for the Colts. NFL insider Jordan Schultz thinks there may be fireworks — reporting that four big name Colts “could be involved” at the deadline.

Quenton Nelson. Jonathan Taylor. DeForest Buckner. Grover Stewart. Schultz is reporting that all four names could be in play for the Colts before next month’s deadline passes. And, given the state of affairs of the Colts’ team right now, they probably should be. A date in Jacksonville with the Jaguars in Week 8 offers no reprieve from the Colts’ brutal start, which could further nudge the Colts towards a sell-off.
“Remember, too. Indianapolis does not have a first round pick next year because of the Sauce Gardner trade. So here’s the bigger question: when you look at the premium positions in football, how many players on this current Colts roster can you confidently say will be foundational pieces three, four, five years from now? And that’s really the problem. They need to rebuild their draft capital and I think moving some of these veteran players, really good veteran players, might be the quickest way to do it. So I’d say this. Keep a very close eye on Indianapolis because I strongly believe that this entire situation could explode heading into the trade deadline.”

The biggest hurdle for the Colts may end up being the price they’re offered. Giving players away at a discount is never savory and usually not good business. I will say, the team’s current situation probably necessitates some more flexibility from Indianapolis. And what a great trial run this is for executive Ed Dodds. Serving as the interim GM, if he can get plus value for his players in the here and now, it will serve as a strong endorsement for his candidacy long term. That is, of course, assuming business gets done. Jordan Schultz believes the Colts are destined for a lot of it.
