More and more leaks (whether they're official or not) are coming out as we approach the NFL's schedule release and the Washington Commanders have been involved early-on.
Two of the team's games have been confirmed: The heavily-rumored matchup against the Dolphins in Week 11 (November 16) and a Week 16 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, December 20.
The Madrid matchup is the NFL's first venture in Spain and it should be an exciting tilt against a Dolphins team looking to reestablish itself after a very disappointing 2024 season. And of course, the game against the Eagles has it's own built-in hype after both teams went at it three times last year – with the finale occurring via the NFC Championship Game.
But there's a sneaky detail about that Saturday matchup and it's the fact that playing on Saturday sets Washington up to play on Christmas Day that following Thursday. Avoiding a Sunday game gives the Commanders -and their potential opponent- an extra day of rest.
I mean, just look at it this way: The Steelers, Chiefs, Ravens, and Texans -the four teams that played on Christmas Day last year- both played on the Saturday before their respective Christmas matchups.
Granted, the Commanders and Eagles aren't going to play two games against each other in a five-day span, so one of the teams will dodge a bullet. Still, 50/50 odds are sizable and there's also the fact Philadelphia is already playing on Black Friday. So, in actuality, the Commanders' odds of playing on Christmas are more than 50%.
Christmas Day games are an inconvenience, the schedule is the schedule and the Commanders will obviously be ready to go regardless of whatever circumstance. Still, it's more than fair to assume they'd rather not play on Christmas than compared to the opposite.
Either way, Xmas Day games are inevitable this year with the holiday landing on a Thursday. So of course the NFL is going to take advantage of it by scheduling two games and it looks like the Commanders are on a collision course when it comes to being one of the teams in the non-Chiefs/Broncos matchup that was announced on Monday.
Commanders 2025 schedule release predictions pit Jayden Daniels against Caleb Williams on the NFL’s big stage once again
We are just a couple of days away from the NFL's 2025 schedule release and while the Washington Commanders were denied what would've been an exciting season-opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, I think the NFL has something almost as big in store for them in Week 1. So, let's not waste any more time and […]
