Saints add unique wide receiver/returner after 2025 NFL Draft
According to Justin Wells, the Saints have signed SMU wide receiver Kelvontay "Moochie" Dixon. Dixon has electric speed and ran a 4.38 40-yard dash ahead of the draft. He did not have a ton of production at the college level, but the physical attributes are there.
Dixon actually mimics Rashid Shaheed in some ways. Shaheed is also a former UDFA signing by New Orleans. He's carved out a legitimate role in their offense and is one of the top special teams returners in the entire NFL.
Dixon is just under 6 feet tall. He has a somewhat thin frame, which is a trend for a chunk of the WR room in New Orleans. His athleticism clearly caught the Saints' eye, though.
Dixon totaled 74 receptions for 1,205 yards and 8 touchdowns over his last three seasons for the Mustangs. He was at Texas prior to SMU as well.
Not to mention, Rashid Shaheed is returning from a season-ending injury. It is unknown if he will be able to start the season healthy for the Saints, unfortunately. If not, we could see Dixon carve out a role on special teams for New Orleans to begin the year.
New Orleans seems to target one of these sort of players late in the draft or during the UDFA period on an annual basis. We'll see if Dixon can make the roster by the time the season rolls around.
