The Chiefs' defense made a crucial fourth down stop late in the fourth quarter that helped Kansas City put the Buffalo Bills away for a 32-29 victory in the AFC Championship Game.
Veteran linebacker Drue Tranquill tied for a team-high nine total tackles on the night. After the game, Tranquill took to X to give the Bills their due, but also sent a blunt message to those who claim that the Chiefs need help from the referees to win games.
Unfortunately, Sunday's game did have a controversial moment when Josh Allen was ruled short of the first-down marker on a fourth-and-one quarterback sneak. Many thought he made enough progress to pick it up, but the officials stuck with their call even after a review.
Everybody will view it differently and make their own determination. That includes Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who disagreed with the call and claimed the NFL is rigged.
Tranquill disagreed with Portnoy with a very snarky response.
We are definitely far from hearing the last about K.C. being on the beneficiary side of calls from the officials. However, the Chiefs have taken it all in stride, while also having a little fun with it as Tranquill did after the game. They will undoubtably be asked about it multiple times during the build up to Super Bowl LIX.
As for Tranquill, he and the rest of K.C.'s defense will have their hands full against the Philadelphia Eagles in the big game. They will have to bring it against Philly's No. 2 rushing offense, led by running back Saquon Barkley, who led the NFL in rushing with 2,005 yards. QB Jalen Hurts is also a threat to run, and off of that he can stretch the field with his arm to weapons such as A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert.
