Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters ahead of Thursday's practice that starting center Cam Jurgens and tight end Dallas Goedert would be participants after surprisingly missing Wednesday's practice.
But it got a little confusing when that was not the case after Thursday's injury report came out later that afternoon.
Jurgens (back) and Goedert (ankle) were both sidelined for the second day in a row as the Eagles get ready to take on the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship.
This slip-up from Sirianni sounds all too familiar, who in Week 10 said Jalen Hurts was battling with an ankle injury, though he was not at all on the injury report. Hurts played that week as the Eagles went on to beat the Dallas Cowboys 34-6. While this is a different scenario, one still has to wonder what is really going on behind the scenes.
When Eagles' starting right Lane Johnson was questioned about Jurgens, he offered some clarity, but he still left some room for speculation.
"We had some guys taking some reps at center today: Nick (Gates), Landon (Dickerson). So, we'll be ready to go," Johnson said. "I think we're just kind of monitoring the situation as the week plays out. But, you know that's how we ran it the past couple of days. "
Johnson, who was limited on Wednesday with a rest/knee designation, was a full participant on Thursday and confirmed his knee was "good."
As for Goedert, he was spotted catching passes on the sideline without a helmet.
Five starters players who were limited on Wednesday practiced in full on Thursday: quarterback Jalen Hurts (knee), cornerback Quinyon Mitchell (shoulder), wide receiver A.J. Brown (knee/rest/illness), right tackle Lane Johnson (knee/rest), and defensive end Josh Sweat (ankle/rest).
Wide receiver Britain Covey (neck) was the only player who remained a limited participant while left tackle Fred Johnson missed practice due to a personal matter.
Eagles backup quarterback Kenny Pickett (ribs) and defensive tackle Byron Young (hamstring) were full participants again.
Eagles vs. Commanders NFC Championship Injury Report Observations
- Center Cam Jurgens played all offensive snaps in last Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Rams, so his name is a surprise.
- Tight end Dallas Goedert also played all but three offensive snaps in the win.
- If Goedert can’t play, backup Grant Calcaterra will get the start.
- Quarterback Jalen Hurts injured his knee against the Rams but appeared to be walking just fine at Wednesday's walkthrough, per multiple reports.
- Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell confirmed with reporters on Wednesday that he will play vs. Washington.
- Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett injured his ribs in Week 16 and then again in Week 17. This is the second week straight that he's back at practice in full.
- Wide receiver A.J. Brown injured his knee ahead of Week 16's matchup but has played through the injury. His illness designation on Thursday was a new one.
- The Eagles signed tight end Nick Muse and offensive lineman Cameron Erving to the practice squad for emergency depth behind Goedert and Jurgens.
- The Eagles opened wide receiver Britain Covey's (neck) 21-day practice window on Wednesday.
- They opened defensive tackle Byron Young's (hamstring) 21-day practice two weeks ago.
