The Las Vegas Raiders are in search of a new quarterback, but that's been the deal for a while now. Regardless of how you viewed Derek Carr's career with the Raiders, they really haven't had an elite quarterback in quite some time — some would say they never have. Now, they have the opportunity to do what they should have done last year, or even the year before.
The Raiders have a top-six pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, where they will begin the search for their next franchise quarterback. Or, they could skip that step and go straight to free agency, looking for a guy like maybe Sam Darnold, to get the job done. And, that may or may not be the right decision.
Either way, when it comes to this quarterback search, they have one of the biggest advantages you could have. They have the greatest quarterback of all time on their side, and they are not scared to let everyone know they will be leaning on him during this search.
"Our mission is to build this football team up around the quarterback position," head coach Pete Carroll said. "We happen to have the greatest of all time to help us and to see clearly, and we're going to lean on Tom [Brady] as much as we possibly can for his insights because nobody has the insights that he has. He's that unique. But the quarterback position is one of the positions on the team, and we've got to make it all fit together well. I've had pretty good success with my quarterbacks in the past.
"You can go all the way back to college days and they've all turned out to be really extraordinary members of our club. There's a way to embrace the challenge that the quarterback has from the rest of the football team, as well. We need to support our guy, and we need to do what we can to make that work. There's a lot that goes into this, but to think about how fortunate we are to have Tom Brady with us, it's just a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
Brady may be one of the best evaluators in the history of the sport when it comes to seeing if a quarterback has it or not. He knew at an early stage that Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, had it. And, look at him now.
A quarterback search isn't easy at all. In fact, many teams fail at it. The Raiders have failed. The Tennessee Titans just recently failed with Will Levis, as they now look to draft Sheduer Sanders or Cam Ward with a top pick in the draft. Luckily, the Raiders have Tom Brady.
Let's just hope this doesn't go how it did for the Denver Broncos with John Elway.
