The New Orleans Saints continue to their caboose search for a new head coach. All other openings have been filled around the NFL.

Mike McCarthy remains an option for the Saints. He is an experienced offensive mind in the league, and he has connections with the front office in New Orleans.

Mike McCarthy & Saints

McCarthy has been looked at as a strong candidate for the Saints' HC opening since he split with the Dallas Cowboys. Recently, there have been some reports arise surrounding the veteran coach and the team.

A league source tells me some of the questions surrounding Mike McCarthy and the Saints head coach vacancy (ever since he became a free agent) have involved sentiments over the power structure & communication when it comes to football decisions, length of contract, etc.–similar to the situation in Dallas. Obviously, McCarthy is very tenured and accomplished. It's not hard to surmise where he'd likely expect due respect. Everything has its own weight and impact on talks. Adding that note for context towards what eventually happens in New Orleans. Additionally, a lot of league perspectives have been given as to what owner Gayle Benson should do when it comes to operations in her building in the future. I'll leave it at that for now.

According to Nick Underhill, the Saints will interview McCarthy later this week, in person. They've already had discussions with him previously, of course, but another interview would signal continued interest from both parties.

It will be intriguing to see how this situation unravels. There have been some conflicting notions regarding the interest on both sides. Ultimately, it still feels like McCarthy is in play for the job with the Saints.

Adam Schefter still thinks he is the probable frontrunner as of now.

New Orleans had a meeting with Eagles OC Kellen Moore after flying to Philadelphia on Monday.
