Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet is reportedly finally on the move.

The ex-Tennessee Vols pitcher is heading to the Boston Red Sox via trade, per multiple outlets on Wednesday. Crochet is heading the AL East giant in exchange for a package of four prospects highlighted by C Kyle Teel, a top 25 overall prospect.

Crochet made the move to a full-time starter last year after pitching out of the bullpen the previous 3 seasons, and the breakthrough was massive.  Crochet was one of the top pitchers in all of baseball last season, posting a 4.1 WAR in 32 starts and 146.1 innings with 209 strikeouts to 33 walks with a 3.58 ERA.  He was an All-Star as well.

Crochet's desire for a new contract or to be traded from the cellar-dwelling White Sox was no secret last season.  That's not an unreasonable demand under the circumstances.  The White Sox' ace underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022, so wanting to get paid while he's healthy and producing is understandable.  Now, we'll find out if the Red Sox work out a deal to tack on a healthy extension to the remaining two years they have control over their new ace.

Crochet pitched for the Volunteers from 2018-2020, where he posted career marks of 4.64 ERA in 36 games with 13 starts with 149 strikeouts to 48 walks. He was drafted by the White Sox with the 11th overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft.
