David Montgomery injury ends the Lions chance to make NFL history on offense
This one feels like a big bummer because, for the second year in a row, they came so close to making it happen. Now you know why only five running back duos have rushed for 1,000 yards each. A few weeks ago it seemed like this was absolutely going to happen. Then Jahmyr Gibbs held […]

A few weeks ago it seemed like this was absolutely going to happen. Then Jahmyr Gibbs held up his end of the bargain when he hit the 1,000-yard mark. Sonic got his, but sadly Knuckles is struggling lately.
Montgomery was having such a good year, but he has slowed down a lot lately. He had a nice Thanksgiving, but other than that, Montgomery had 37 yards against the Colts, 51 against the Packers, and just four yards against the Bills. At this rate, it's going to be hard for him to hit that 1,000-yard mark.
It's not going to be impossible though. Montgomery currently sits at 775 yards this season. He needs 225 yards in three games. That boils down to 75 yards per game. He's done that five times this year, but can he do that three times in a row? That's going to be hard when he shares the backfield with Gibbs who has been on a bit of a heater as of late.
We'll see what happens, but as for now, maybe a third time is a charm in 2025.
Update: This is now out of the question as it's being reported that Montgomery injured his MCL against the Bills and his season will potentially be coming to a close. Like we said, maybe year three is the one.
