Wide receiver Christian Watson wouldn't have practiced on Wednesday, based on the Green Bay Packers' estimation on the injury report. He did not practice on Thursday. While Friday's status is still to be determined, the Packers are willing to give him the full week ahead of a final decision before Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
"I think he's played enough. If he's feeling up to it Sunday, we'll let him go," LaFleur said after practice on Thursday. "If he's not, we won't let him go."
Christian Watson left the New Orleans Saints game early on Monday night after an opponent rolled over his knee. Tests on Tuesday showed no structural damage, and it's just a bruise. Now, it's a matter of how Watson is feeling and how he's able to manage the pain.
Since the Packers have already clinched a playoff spot, it wouldn't make sense to force him too much, but the Vikings game on Sunday is obviously important for NFC seeding and because it's a divisional rival.
The Packers have a solid wide receiver depth. If Christian Watson can't go on Sunday, the active group would have Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath. The practice squad still has Julian Hicks, Cornelius Johnson, and converted quarterback Alex McGough — none of them has been elevated for any game this season.
Green Bay certainly expects Watson to return this season. And he is experienced enough to do it without practicing. The next few days will be key, though, and his status is still pretty much up in the air.
