Kansas City Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins took to the practice fields at One Arrowhead Drive for the first time on Thursday.
Hopkins' journey with the Chiefs began with a press conference ahead of practice. He'll get a crash course for Kansas City with just three days to prepare before his first opportunity to play with his new team.
Here's a first look at Hopkins from Thursday's practice. . .
New Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins gets his first practice session in on Thursday
Media members watched Hopkins running through his first drills with Kansas City on Thursday, recording the earliest look at him in a Chiefs uniform. Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney, FOX 4 Kansas City's Harold Kuntz, The Athletic's Nate Taylor, and even the Chiefs' own social media account shared clips of Hopkins from practice on X (formerly Twitter).
He got a chance to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes, who he has admired from a far since the 2018 NFL season.
Hopkins is wearing the No. 8 jersey, explaining that the late great Kobe Bryant played into his decision to wear that number in Kansas City.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid was optimistic that Hopkins would be able to play in the Week 8 game. They'll need all the help they can get against their most bitter AFC West rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, who are the last team to have beaten them. The only reason Reid would hold Hopkins out is if he felt he was putting him in a bad position after seeing him go throughout the practice week in Kansas City.
From the brief media look-in, Hopkins looks healthy and ready to perform with his new team. How he handles the playbook, scheme, and concepts behind the scenes will be just as important as what he can show when he gets involved in practice.
