Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton and current Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders aren’t strangers to the spotlight. Both of them have routinely captured the attention of the media, and it has led to some viral moments over the years. That includes a recent interaction between the two of them prior to Colorado’s game against the UCF.
It was an interaction that left everyone wondering just what happened. It began with Newton walking up to Sanders, seemingly having nothing but positive intentions. Then all of a sudden, the interaction made a weird turn. Sanders clearly wasn’t open to the interaction, and he quickly avoided it with some commentary involved.
Newton suddenly had a confused look on his face. That whole situation was disjointed, awkward and interesting. On a recent episode of the 4thand1show, Newton gave some insight into that interaction. As it turns out, the awkwardness didn’t just end with Sanders. That same vibe was similar when reaching out to star athlete Travis Hunter as well.
It’s not surprising that Newton described the interactions as awkward. Anybody who saw the viral video could come to that conclusion. Him using the word “contentious” was an interesting choice. There’s no telling what the beef is between Newton and the Colorado tandem, but clearly there is something there.
This will be a story that will be interesting to follow. You know that both sides will continue to be asked about it, hopefully able to uncover more of the backstory. In the end, there probably won’t be any long term implications for either side. It’s more just an interesting interaction that has left everyone wanting to know the backstory.
Both Hunter and Sanders are valued heavily in NFL circles. Each is projected to be selected within the first ten selections of the 2025 NFL Draft in April. Sanders is in contention to be the first quarterback selected, while Hunter has an argument as the best overall player in the class.
