Coming away with a big victory over the Kansas City Chiefs is huge for the Buffalo Bills. Winning 31-20 marks many things, including an ability to rise to the occasion against the best competition, and quarterback Josh Allen showcasing that he can put on the Superman cape and take over a game against the top competition, even when down numerous pass-catching options.
What he and the Bills did was incredible. Now, heading into the bye week, it's all eyes on the playoff push. At 9-2, the Bills are right up there with the best teams in the league. Holding the tiebreaker over Kansas City is a huge advantage, especially as we begin looking at the race for the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, which comes with home field advantage and a first round bye.
Not only did Buffalo help their own case, but they also got some help in another key AFC matchup — with the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo avoided a threat behind them. The current race for the AFC No. 1 seed looks as follows, sorted by record:
- Kansas City Chiefs (9-1)
- Buffalo Bills (9-2)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (8-2)
- Baltimore Ravens (7-4)
- Los Angeles Chargers (6-3, SNF still pending)
- Houston Texans (6-4, MNF still pending)
The Ravens, having beat Buffalo earlier in the season, would have posed a big threat if they were able to knock off the Steelers, which isn't to discredit Pittsburgh by any means. That tie-breaker could be a massive problem. Now, Buffalo will be just playing a straight up record-vs-record game with the Steelers.
The Chargers, on Sunday Night Football, look like a major problem. Their offense with Justin Herbert look lethal, and the defense is playing like arguably the best defensive unit in the entire NFL.
Buffalo still has a couple big tests left on their schedule, hosting the San Francisco 49ers after the bye week and heading to Detroit to play the Lions in December. They're right in the thick of things with all their goals ahead of them, thanks to their big win over the Chiefs.
Josh Allen just made one of the NFL’s biggest decisions a lot harder after huge win over Chiefs
Allen went absolutely superhuman.
