We started writing this article on Sunday around sack four. There was no question that Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson would be winning the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award. Easiest pre-write ever right?

Wrong. Somehow the star player did not win the award. It was given to Flacons safety Jessie Bates.

Hutchinson had aa very good game with six pressures, 4.5 sacks and a hurry. He is now firmly planted in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation with Steelers edge T.J. Watt. As of right now, Hutchinson leads the league in pressures with 17 and and leads the league in sacks with 5.5.

Bates is a good player and he had a good game with 12 tackles and an interception, but come on man. That seems pedestrian to what Hutchinson did in this game. Even though the Lions lost, there was no better defensive player in the league this past week.
