Eagles, Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles went into Week 13 with a plan, a good plan, and stuck with it. That plan most definitely worked, too. That same plan could be used in Week 14.

Obviously, things will change. It won't be exactly the same as trying to defend Derrick Henry, but defending Saquon Barkley will be very similar. Both are powerful runners that the offense runs completely through.

Both guys draw so much attention from opposing teams' defenses, making coordinators stack the box at times and other defensive looks. On Sunday, the Eagles did something great against the Titans.

They held Derrick Henry to 38 yards on 11 carries. I don't know if they can do that to Barkley, but they will definitely try. I think Barkley knows what's coming too.

"The first thing that stood out to me was how the corners were tackling, Barkley said. "(Philadelphia cornerback Darius) Slay and (Philadelphia cornerback James) Bradberry were putting their face in there on a couple of the runs. They did a really good job of establishing the line of scrimmage.

"That’s what football is about. Games are won up front on both sides of the ball. They’re really talented up there and they did a really good job of establishing the line of scrimmage, making plays, and making tackles they needed to have."

It's exactly what Barkley said- the defense plays the line of scrimmage and makes tackles. It's that simple, and that is what will help them win the battle up front and stop the run.

The run defense has been awful this year for the Eagles, that is until last week when they shut down the best pure running back in football. This week, they could do the exact same things against the Giants. I think Saquon Barkley knows what's coming for him too.
