The Tennessee Vols made a big recruiting move on Wednesday afternoon by landing a commitment from 2020 three-star safety Mordecai McDaniel.
McDaniel, 6-foot-1/195 lbs from Washington D.C., is rated in 247Sports as the No. 4 player in D.C. and the No. 32 safety in the nation.
The dynamic defensive back committed to Tennessee over offers from Florida, Notre Dame and Penn State, among many others.
McDaniel is a typical "Pruitt DB". He's tall and rangy and he has elite speed (he's reportedly expected to run track for the Vols).
But Tennessee didn't just land a good player with McDaniel, they also might have made a big move with one of their top remaining recruiting targets.
Five-star wide receiver Rakim Jarrett, who is currently committed to LSU, is high school teammates with McDaniel. So perhaps this will help Pruitt and his staff sway the elite wide receiver to Rocky Top. It certainly won't hurt their chances.
Tennessee now has 15 commits in its 2020 recruiting class.
