In Jalen Hurts' return to the Houston area, his Philadelphia Eagles' defense was not going to let him down.
During the third quarter, with the game still in the throws, the Eagles finally capitalized on Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills' critical mistake — an ill-timed interception.
With 8:23 left to play in the third quarter, the score tied 14-14, and Houston facing a 3rd-and-6, Mills' pass, intended for Chris Moore met the always greedy C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
The interception by Gardner-Johnson set Philadelphia up to strike quickly, and it did. The Eagles scored on a two-play nine-second drive that allowed them to take a 21-14 lead midway through the third quarter.
Additionally, the interception gave Gardner-Johnson his fifth interception on the season, making him the league leader in that category.
The pick was also the fourth-straight game in which Garnder-Johnson has collected an interception. He is evidently playing at a different level than anyone else in the secondary. It's hard to believe the Eagles acquired the league leader in interceptions for a fifth and sixth-round pick. But, then again, there is a reason for the season they are experiencing through Week 9.
