Going into their week four matchup against the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a number of key starters and contributors on their injury report.
- DB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring)
- DB Minkah Fitzpatrick (concussion)
- G Kevin Dotson (ankle)
- P Pressley Harvin III (hip)
A few days in advanced, three of the four players listed will play in Sunday's matchup. The lone player out being the corner Witherspoon. First reported by Nick Farabaugh of Pittsburgh Sports Now.
This is big blow to the Pittsburgh secondary. Witherspoon is coming off his best game of the season. Allowing a season-lows 60% completion in coverage and 52 yards receiving.
With Cam Sutton and Levi Wallace as the presumed outside starters, they'll go up against rookie Garrett Wilson, the Jets leading receiver.
As well as a mix of Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, making up the NFL's fourth ranked passing attack. Including the return of starting QB Zach Wilson.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense allows some of the least yards per catch (6.4) in the league. With the adaptation made to the defensive line in effort to better stop the run, the secondary now will need to bear the brunt of losing their starter.
In the middle of a two-game losing streak, this is an in-opportune time to take a hit to the secondary. While Fitzpatrick playing is a welcomed sign from dealing with a concussion, the defense is thinning out more and more.
Hopefully, the hamstring issue won't keep their starting corner out beyond this week and become a lingering issue as the season goes along.
