Jeremy Fowler reports that the Chargers will be the first NFL team to meet with Michigan Wolverines HC Jim Harbaugh.
There are currently six other teams, besides Los Angeles, looking for a new head coach. The Chargers are also looking for a new general manager alongside their new HC.
Harbaugh previously coached in the NFL. He found plenty of success as the head coach with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2010s. Harbaugh also has a strong relationship with the Chargers and their ownership. He played for the Chargers in 1999 and 2000.
Last Monday, Harbaugh and his Michigan team won the College Football Playoff championship game over Washington. He's spent the last week relaxing and celebrating alongside his players, coaches, and family.
Now, the competition for his services will heat up. When asked about a return to the NFL over the past month, he did not rule it out. Harbaugh has not committed to a pro return, but the opportunity seems like it will certainly present itself.
He's expected to be the most popular candidate for many of the HC searches around the NFL. His interview with the Chargers surely will not be his last over the next week or so.
Harbaugh is 60 years old. The veteran HC has spent the last nine seasons at Michigan. The Wolverines are 86-25 in that span.
