One thing that head coach Matt LaFleur always praised about assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia was his attitude. And right after a big-time playoff 48-32 win over the Dallas Cowboys, he showed he's not kidding.

Bisaccia left the field in the direction of the locker room yelling "How 'bout them Cowboys."

The Packers became the first ever seventh seed to win a playoff game — the NFL playoffs expanded in 2020. After beating the Cowboys, Green Bay will face the first seed in the NFC next week — the San Francisco 49ers, in Santa Clara.

Ups and downs

Rich Bisaccia was hired last year to rebuild the Packers special teams. The performance was better in 2022, but it was underwhelming once again in 2023 — the unit finished 31st by DVOA. However, outside of a missed extra point by Anders Carlson, the special teams played well in Dallas.

Daniel Whelan had a big punt in the first quarter, which led to Jaire Alexander's interception and a following touchdown by Aaron Jones. The punter finished the game with three punts inside the 20. Carlson missed one extra point, but converted other six.

And the rest of the unit held well for the most part, allowing talented returner KaVontae Turpin just one significant return.

History

Rich Bisaccia knows the Packers-Cowboys really well from both angles. He was Dallas special teams coordinator and assistant head coach from 2013 to 2017.

In that period, the Cowboys got beat by Green Bay twice in the playoffs. First, after the 2014 season, in that "Dez Bryant caught or didn't catch it" game. Then, after the 2016 season, the Packers won again with the fantastic Jared Cook catch near the sidelines.

This time around, the Packers won again. However, Bisaccia was on the right side. And he made it known after the game.
