A major change for the Cincinnati Bengals has become officially official.
Former offensive coordinator Brian Callahan has been officially announced as the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and it won't be long until Callahan and the Bengals meet on opposite sides of the gridiron.
The Bengals and Titans each finished last in their respective AFC divisions in 2023. NFL scheduling rules will have this matchup a part of the 2024 schedule as both teams will face the last place teams of the two AFC divisions they won't play in their entirety.
Cincinnati traveled to Tennessee in Week 4 of this past season and came back with an embarrassing 27-3 defeat. Tennessee would go on to win a grand total of five games, while Cincinnati ended up with nine and stayed in playoff contention until the end of Week 17.
Struggles in Nashville sparked the Titans to move on from head coach Mike Vrabel, and Callahan is now taking over operations on the field.
The last time the Bengals faced a team coached by former coordinator of theirs was Week 1 of the 2021 season. Mike Zimmer's Minnesota Vikings lost an overtime thriller to the Bengals in Cincinnati, a win that helped spark the Bengals' Super Bowl run that season.
The Bengals are 5-1-1 against their former coordinators since 2016. They were 4-0 against Hue Jackson's Cleveland Browns, 1-1 against Zimmer's Vikings, and tied their only meeting against Jay Gruden's Washington Commanders.
We'll learn when the Bengals will face Callahan's Titans later this offseason when the full NFL schedule is revealed.
