Not many cornerbacks have played as well as the Kansas City Chiefs' L'Jarius Sneed this season. He proved that yet again during Saturday's wild-card game against the Miami Dolphins.
His matchup against All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill was highly anticipated, and Sneed didn't disappoint, holding Hill to just one catch for nine yards.
Sneed was very physical with Hill all game long, keeping him absolutely smothered in 1-on-1 coverage. After the game, Sneed talked to reporters about what it's like to play against Hill.
“I love (matching up with Tyreek Hill)," Sneed said. "It’s always a great time going up against Tyreek. We came out and we battled.”
Sneed also told reporters about why he plays with such physicality and what his overall mindset is each week.
"It's just in my game," Sneed said. "I like to get in people's head. I got a chip on shoulder that I'm playing with, and I want more for myself and my team. I just got to keep going."
The chip on Sneed's shoulder is likely in part from him being snubbed from the Pro Bowl and All-Pro rosters. As for his matchup with Hill, there's no doubt Sneed had him on edge. On one particular snap, Sneed mauled Hill at the line of scrimmage. The threat of such physicality from Sneed also caused Hill to false start by flinching before the snap.
This isn't the first time Sneed has shutdown Hill, as he did so during their previous matchup in Week 9. There is no shortage of talented receivers for Sneed to potentially square off with moving forward in the postseason. This next matchup in the divisional round could feature either the Buffalo Bills' Stefon Diggs or the Houston Texans' Nico Collins.
