Jets' Saleh at a loss for words when defending keeping Zach Wilson as QB

The fact that the Jets are sitting at 4-4 and still very much in contention for not only the playoffs, but the AFC East is a testament to how good Robert Saleh and that defense has been all season.
The 500lbs weight hanging on this team and preventing them from truly taking off is the offense, and while the offensive line definitely has a share of the blame, the true culprit for the offense’s ineptitude is the quarterback.
The kid tries hard, and he wants to be good, but it just isn’t there. What I can’t understand is why he keeps getting thrown out there by this organization when we already know the result. After all, this is his third season as a full-time starter.
What magical switch does this organization expect to flip on to make Zach Wilson serviceable, let alone good? And more importantly, how long does this defense have to wait for it to switch on?
Appearing on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio in New York, Robert Saleh was asked why they haven’t tried anyone else at quarterback and his response was a little perplexing. You can hear it below.
“Again, fair question and you know, it's like I said he- I don't know. You got me. I'm gonna I'm gonna plead the fifth on all this one in terms of I've kind of explained it,” Saleh said. “But they're valid questions but- and I know from from a passionate fan from fans who are passionate all having the same questions I respect it greatly you know, but it's, I've got to look at it from a global standpoint and just see where we are and look at the All-22 the best I can and make the decisions as best as possible.”
Saleh seems lost as to what to do in the interview. In my opinion, it almost sounds as if he is backed into a corner and can’t say what he wants to say.
Does he want to bench Zach Wilson and is being told by higher ups that he can’t? It would make his response here make sense, but I can’t imagine why Joe Douglas or Woody Johnson would want to continue to run this out on the field.
Is OC Nathaniel Hackett adamant that backups Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian can’t run the offense? Apparently neither can Zach Wilson.
The fans don’t want Wilson to continue making the offense look a bad junior varsity squad except for a vocal minority, who for some reason, still claim Zach Wilson to be the future. These fans are still stuck on his draft slot and not focused on his play. Those who continue to defend his play have delusions of Steve Young in their heads.
Wilson has done a good job of eliminating bad throws this season, but he hasn’t added any good ones either. He stopped throwing careless interceptions, but he only has five touchdown passes on the season. The Jets are the worst team in the NFL both on third downs and in the red zone.
Something that I believe is just as important, teams aren’t respecting the Jets ability to throw the ball. The offense can’t generate any holes for the run game because defenses would rather sell out to stop Breece Hall than worry about Zach Wilson picking them apart because frankly, he can’t.
So, what is holding Saleh back from making a switch? What is the worst-case scenario for this team that is worse than being dead last in almost every important offensive category? Where’s the harm in trying to give his defense a break from having to be perfect every play? What outcome can there be offensively that will be a detriment to this team more so than what they are?
For now, I guess Robert Saleh will plead the fifth. But that won’t last forever.
Jets’ offense a complete train wreck in loss to Chargers
There is no way around it. There is no way to sugarcoat it. There is no way make it go down any easier with hollow platitudes delivered by coaches or players. The Jets offense is a train wreck. Following a Monday Night embarrassing loss to the Los Angeles Chargers by a final score of 27-6, […]
