7 Takeaways from the Lions NFC North title win
They didn't make it easy on you did they? The Detroit Lions made you wait nearly 30 years and then put you through the ringer for the very last two minutes of that near 30 years. It's finally happened Lions fans. Your Lions are the new NFC North champions with a 30-24 win over the […]
They didn't make it easy on you did they? The Detroit Lions made you wait nearly 30 years and then put you through the ringer for the very last two minutes of that near 30 years. It's finally happened Lions fans. Your Lions are the new NFC North champions with a 30-24 win over the Vikings.
As always, I have thoughts on this game. These are those thoughts.
Melifonwoo!
Ifeatu Melifonwu is the hero of this game For obvious reasons. He picked off Nick Mullens on the final play of the game and helped the Lions clinch the divsion championship. That's not all he did on Sunday though. He also had two sacks in the first half. One of which was maybe a millisecond away from being a sack fumble. He also had a big PBU on Justin Jefferson in the fourth quarter. What a day for this kid.
I am so sorry that I didn't believe in you at the beginning of the season. I was waiting for the breakout and it just hadn't came yet. I am wrong and I have never been happier to be wrong. Melifonwu is a hero. Since this was the number one song in America the last time that the Lions won the division, it only makes sense that this one goes out to the hero.
Goff Report
Goff had a great game against the Vikings. He didn't light it up like he did against the Broncos, but he had a very productive game. Goff completed 75% of his passes for 278 yards and a touchdown. Just a great game. He got understandably emotional after the game.
Jared Goff gets emotional in post game interview after win
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been through a lot in his career. The Rams very publicly gave up on him after the 2020 season and traded him to the Lions. It was thought that he was nothing more than a bridge guy that the Lions would just move on from. In year three he […]
Defense
You just knew that 30 years was going to come down to Aaron Glenn and the Lions defense. They got it done on Sunday. They forced four turnovers and two punts in this one and still, it felt like there was a chance that it could go wrong. That S.O.L. thing was creeping up for one last time to bite the Lions in the ass and they just said said "no." This time things were different. It was the Lions that finished this one off with the win.
Rookie Bounce Back
The Lions rookies continue to shine. Although this time a couple of them made rookie mistakes. It was how they responded that really shows what they're made of.
Jahmyr Gibbs fumbled early in the game and then came back racked up 100 total yards and two touchdowns. Way to not let that fumble bother you.
Brian Branch had two really bad moments back to back. He committed an illegal contact penalty and then dropped an interception that could have gone back for a touchdown. He followed that up with a sack and interception and two pass breakups. This is exactly what you want to see in your young players.
Kerby-2-Picks
Kerby Joseph hasn't had the big sophomore season I think Lions fans hoped he would have. He's struggled a bit and that's normal. He didn't struggle a whole lot on Sunday though. He picked Nick Mullens off twice and helped helped the Lions get good field position with returns on both of them. One of which for 20-yards.
Sun God
How reliable is this guy? Goff targeted Amon-Ra St. Brown 14 times and he caught 12 of those passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. It was like like clockwork watching him work out there. The Lions can go so far if they have him on his game. The good thing is that he usually is.
Goodbye 1993
You'll never have to hear about the 1993 Detroit Lions again. All the problems that this team has gone through in the last 30 years are gone. This is who the Lions are now. They're champions and they're contenders for bigger things. They are the Brand. New. Lions.
