The bulk of the Tennessee Vols' work during the 2024 recruiting cycle has been completed, but UT could still have a major recruiting splash on the way.
All 21 of Tennessee's recruiting additions (not counting their transfer additions) have either enrolled or signed their national letter of intent as of Wednesday.
There's still a five-star recruit, however, that Tennessee could land in February when the traditional signing period rolls around.
247Sports' Steve Wiltfong reported on Wednesday that five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley, a Texas A&M commit since September, will not sign this week.
According to Wiltfong, McKinley will visit LSU and Tennessee in January before signing with a program in February. He's currently scheduled to visit Tennessee the weekend of January 20, which means he'll be in town for the Vols' basketball game against Alabama (in early 2022, it was a Tennessee basketball game that made a major impression on five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava before he eventually committed to UT).
McKinley, 6-foot-5/280 lbs from Lafayette, LA is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 27 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class. He's also rated as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Louisiana.
Beating out LSU for the top player in Louisiana won't be easy. But the Vols have defensive line coach Rodney Garner, one of the most highly respected assistant coaches in the sport, which could be enough to sway the big-time recruit to Rocky Top. NIL, of course, will likely play a big factor, too.
